How i work

This is a playbook which captures more about me and how I operate in a working environment. This is in no way a constant document and will be changed by me as life goes on.

You're under no obligation to be the same person you were 5 minutes ago.”
Alan Watts

What are the best/ worst ways to communicate with you?

  1. Slack : Short bites/updates/queries
  2. Google meet/Zoom : Kickstart a discussion or longer queries
  3. In Person : Brainstorming / thinking. Should have an agenda so that everyone can prepare well in advance. Not over 45 minutes because it just drains the mind and doesn’t give any output.
  4. In person : I love long form discussions but they are required to be more generic in terms of life. I generally avoid these because of their skewed nature how people approach it because I view them to be mandatorily done using an open mind.

What time of the day do you work best?

Morning 8-4. I am a morning person and evening is when I like to keep my mind free of all distractions to enjoy other things in life.

My meetings and my time

Defining an agenda and expected outcome for a meeting is something very important. I do not like to have meetings just for the sake of it.

What is the best way to convince you to do something?

Logic. If the argument is logical, I would be able to understand it clearly. Intuition is a very important aspect in decision making and we as humans are more and more getting away from it. Intuition is a mix of experience, data, frameworks and I think intuition is very important and can go against logic. These 2 things need to balance out in a decision.

Another aspect is that no problem is 100% solvable. If you are trying to solve for 100% it is going to increase complexity without any tangible outcome. Go for 95% at all times. Start with 70-80 coverage and reach 95% subsequently.

What drives nuts or irritates you?

  1. Dishonesty/politics. I like honesty and trust. My default mode is to trust people unless they prove otherwise.
  2. Micromanagement. I do not like constant monitoring of my work being done by someone and neither do I like to do it. As i said my default mode is trust to you and hence i expect the same from you. Even if you do not trust, you have to be able to rely on me to get the work done.
  3. No proper solutioning/ reasoning of the approach towards a solution. A classic example is to take shortcuts / hacky solutions towards a problem and parking the actual solutioning to later. While it might seem that we are solving the problem in a short amount of time, more often than not it has repercussions.
  4. Too much use case handling in the first iteration. There has to be a balance to know that we cannot handle everything in 1 go. We have to be flexible and iterate but have to do it in a calculated manner without violating number 3.
  5. Illogical arguments. No explanation needed.
  6. I am an introverted nerd. Any possible attempts to change me when you have no logic is something I will immediately withdraw myself from.

How can people earn extra gold star with you?

  1. You are always on a gold star unless you prove otherwise.

Feedback? To you : If feedback is related to work, I will generally tell you directly. But other than that as mentioned above I avoid giving feedback but I am working on this to be very direct in feedback and immediate.  To me : I expect continuous feedback from you on how I can improve or view things differently.
